Please join us for an interactive discussion about how Democrats Abroad is fighting for U.S. tax relief for Americans abroad with speaker, Carmelan Polce, Chair of the Democrats Abroad Taxation Task Force (our front line for ending our terrible tax situation). She will provide a brief overview of the history of our fight, what we are currently doing and where our effort is headed. She will follow with Q&A and explain how you can help.
As Americans overseas we deal with especially high levels of stress as we prepare our U.S. tax filings every year. Whether you owe taxes or not, filing is unreasonably complicated, and engaging filing support can be inordinately costly. For those of us who run small businesses the GILTI provisions can overwhelm with complexity, erode business viability and destroy our ability to grow or attract talented overseas partners. Even basic rights like participating in our host country’s pensions saving schemes do not receive fair tax treatments by our government.
We expect Congress to pass tax legislation this year for the first time in 4 years giving us an opportunity to push our tax reform recommendations into the bill. Democrats Abroad has been in HIGH GEAR for months, speaking to Congress and providing written advice to key legislators about the tax problems we need solved and our reform recommendations for how to do so. Further, our 200,000+ member organisation, with the guidance of Global Chair Candice Kerestan, is being engaged in the fight to get tax reforms for Americans abroad into the upcoming bills.WHENJuly 08, 2021 at 6pmWHERERSVP for zoom link

Having a Congress that understands and supports the Americans abroad community is essential to building critical Congressional support for our reform recommendations. That's why we are working to increase membership in the Congressional Americans Abroad Caucus - a group of Congressional leaders motivated to address the unique issues of the Americans abroad community.
Invite your Congressperson to join the American Abroad Caucus TODAY.
Find a script, ways to get in touch and more details about the caucus and our caucus membership drive. CLICK HERE if you are on a handheld device. CLICK HERE to download our Americans Abroad Caucus Membership Drive Participation Guide.
The Americans Abroad Caucus was founded by Rep Carolyn Maloney (D-NY12) and is currently chaired by Rep. Maloney and Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV01). A recent register of the Americans Abroad Caucus members is here.
The caucus helps guide us when we have reforms to present, problems that require government support or questions that relate to the federal government. They are critical help in our work to provide tax relief for Americans abroad, plus expand voting rights, address our immigration issues, and so much more.
We have prepared this participation guide and this webpage for handheld devices which includes everything you need for participating in the Americans Abroad Caucus Membership Drive. If you have any questions about the campaign or the advice in the guides please send questions to [email protected]
Thank you for your support for this campaign and for our work on behalf of the Americans abroad community.

On Friday 23 April the IRS published a bulletin describing the 2 million payments they distributed in the 6th batch of Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) from the American Rescue Plan Act. This is the U.S. Government's 3rd round of EIPs since the pandemic started: EIP1 = $1200 (Mar 2020); EIP2 = $600 (Dec 2020); EIP3 = $1400 (Feb 2021). The IRS 23 April bulletin is copied in full at the very end of this post.
Democrats Abroad continues to hear from eligible Americans abroad waiting for their EIP(s) and wanting to contact the IRS. The IRS has published this information about how to contact them from abroad. The International Call Center contact numbers listed at this website, open Monday through Friday from 6am to 11pm Eastern time, are:
You have the best chance of being near the front of the queue if you begin dialing at 6am US Eastern time, though many have reported long wait times even if they started dialing early.
You might also try to reach the IRS with a question through your member of the House of Representatives. Your Representative has constituent services officers, usually in the district office, to handle a range of constituent issues. You can request that your Representative's Constituent Advocate access the Congressional Liaison to the IRS on your behalf. You may be able to get in contact with the IRS in this way, though, again, many have reported to us that their outreach to constituent services staff was fruitless. It's no magic bullet, but it is worth a try. Here's how:Read more
