Apolonio Huerta
Chair, Zürich Chapter; DPCA Alternate Representative, Switzerland
|California Native, former plant scientist, and fellow Progressive|
From the sunny city of San Diego, I am passionate about politics and have a commitment to the values that define us as a party.
As a first-generation Mexican American, I know firsthand the struggles that come with being marginalized from mainstream America. Growing up poor and closeted, I often felt like an outsider in my own country. But it was in 2008, at a local DNC election night event, that I experienced a sense of belonging that I will never forget. Amongst a diverse crowd of likeminded individuals, I witnessed the power of unity and the strength of our democracy. That moment ignited a fire within me and propelled me towards the Democratic Party.
Today, as the Chair of the Zürich Chapter of Democrats Abroad Switzerland, I am honored to represent our community of American expats. It is my hope that during my tenure, we can come together and build a foundation of support for those who find themselves far from home or who seek a sense of belonging. As a progressive, I am committed to fighting for the values that we hold dear - equality, justice, and freedom for all.
When I’m not traveling for work or at DACH events, I am likely at home in Zürich where I live with my husband, running by the Limmat or hiking in the Alps.
