What's Next?
For our representative Democrats Abroad delegates - just like state DNC delegates - their bound votes have been 'released' by Biden's step down from the nomination, and the Democratic National Convention Committee (rules committee) is meeting tomorrow to discuss the process for a transparent, open and democratic process around how these delegates are committed at the convention. A person becomes the Presidential nominee when they secure the 1975 delegate votes to win the nomination. While VP Harris has declared her intent to run for President and has stated she wants to 'earn and win' the nomination, she is not the official nominee until this process is completed.
We have 13 delegates attending on behalf of Democrats Abroad in Chicago, and while some DA delegates have pledged their individual support for VP Harris' nomination there will be a process to poll members/voters to align their preference with our delegation who is attending the Chicago Convention, August 19-22nd. No one from Ireland is attending the convention [as of now] in person, but we do have close connections to many who are. Delegates were elected as part of our meetings in Costa Rica at the end of May/beginning of June and are representative of the regions where Democrats Abroad operates. If you know someone who is attending, there is an Irish American Caucus event on the evening of the 20th, so please let us know and we will try to secure them an invite to the event.
We will also keep you in the loop as the rules committee confirms the process going into and during the convention itself.
What Can I Do?
Now is the time to actively engage in promoting voter registration! People are energized and want to talk about this campaign, and we are all here for that 100 percent! We have upcoming meet ups and events that we are happy to share and more to come!
1. Click the Button below to register to Vote and Request Your Ballot if you have not already done so - I keep reading that states voter 'automatic rules' are changing {yes it happened in Florida} so even if you 'always' get a ballot - don't wait for it to be sent - request and register now at
2. Know Americans in your area? The best way to encourage them to vote is to ask them to register at www.votefromabroad.org - which is non-partisan [so it eliminates any assumption on party or candidate preference]. Want some business cards to hand out to potential voters?
3. Sign up to Volunteer & More! Starting in August we are going to begin a countrywide effort to gather together and bring together voters and volunteers to raise visibility of Vote From Abroad and register people to vote! We are also attending the Kennedy Summer School in New Ross, Co Wexford! .
For those interested in training to become an online and in person voter volunteer please click HERE for training

For those interested in specific voter outreach (like phone banking and voter registration tables/events) click HERE
We will be attending and having a voter registration desk at the Kennedy Summer School in New Ross at the end of August. A great event is planned - fabulous speakers, dinners, etc. CLICK HERE for more details on KSS and we would LOVE to see a great group of DA members there!
4. Watch the Democratic National Convention with our DA Ireland Convention Virtual Watch Party Aug 19-22nd! This was a success as we bonded in the wee hours with members and some US voters during the debates, so we are bringing the PARTY back - cameras optional - and we connect during the events via a moderated chat format on zoom. Link will be provided (same link each night) and you can come and go as you please.
We look forward to sending more updates to you as the pre-convention activities grow and thank you again for your ongoing outreach, support and momentum into this election! Lets win this!
