Virtually on Zoom in Milan, Italy

U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-8) and Ms. Kandis Davis, Poetry Reading

Celebrate "Ballot Day" with U.S. Congressman Jamie Raskin! "Failed State or New Reconstruction: Countdown to Judgment Day for American Democracy."
Congressman Raskin believes that American is showing the classic signs of becoming a failed state, a destination that could become irreversible if Donald Trump were to procure four more years in office. On the other hand the civilizing movements of our day--Black Lives Matter, the climate change movement, a resurgent union movement, Moms Demand Action, the LGBTQ movement-- provide the energy and framework for a New Reconstruction in America.
In fewer than 50 days we will choose between the path of authoritarianism and the path of strong democracy. What must we do to win? A professor of constitutional law and Member of the House Democratic Leadership Team, a former member of Democrats Abroad  who lived in Europe and South America, Jamie Raskin will discuss this fateful moment.

Rep. Jamie Raskin’s first congressional action was to object to the certification of the election of Donald Trump as President because of voter suppression and Russian interference in the election. He is a constitutional law professor, author, and the chief sponsor of legislation to establish a congressional “oversight” commission with the authority to declare a President “incapacitated” and removed from office under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Our Revolution he won the crowded seven-way Democratic primary with 33% of the vote and was viewed as the most liberal candidate in the race, where he was outspent in the most expensive House race in 2016.
He announced that his “ambition is not to be in the political center, but to be in the moral center.” With three other members of the House he formed the Congressional FreeThought Caucus, which he co-chairs.
He supports banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and is a former DA France member and one of our 2004 Democratic National Convention Delegates.

Kandis Davis - Artist, Cellist, Model and Arts Advocate - will be introducing the art form, the Spoken Word, reciting the poetry of Maya Angelou.

Kandis Davis began her artistic studies with ballet at the age of 4, cello at the age of 5, and piano and acting at the age of 7.
Having studied at top institutions from America to Europe, Kandis is the first female African American Concert Cellist to work with every prominent theater in Milan, “La Verdi” Symphony Orchestra, “I Pomeriggi Musicali” and “Teatro alla Scala”.
Kandis spearheaded the partnership between The Cariplo Foundation, Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera, Global Culture Talks, Fare Arte and The United States Consulate of Milan, creating an international exchange of culture through Masterclasses for visual arts.
Having been featured on every major television network as a model and as a musician, Kandis has also acted in the Italian language and collaborated with renowned international artists from all genres of music, art, culture and fashion.
Having been conferred Cultural Diplomacy by The United States Consulate of Milan, Kandis continues connecting cultures through the arts and fashion.
