Professor Jeff Obbard holds a PhD in Environmental Science, and a BSc. Honours degree in Ecology (1st Class) from the United Kingdom. Jeff spent 17 years at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), and has recently returned to Singapore from Qatar University where he was the Director and Professor of its Environmental Science Centre.
During his time at NUS, Prof. Obbard was Director of the Sustainable Development and Water Alliance (SDWA), and Research Director at the Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI). In Singapore, he also held a joint appointment with the Agency for Science Technology Research (A*STAR) as the Principal Scientist on its Bioenergy Program.
In the USA, Jeff was Vice President for Science Technology at a Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum joint-venture company in Hawaii to develop carbon-capture biotechnology renewable low-carbon biofuels. He has also served as an Expert Reviewer to the intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for its AR5 report.
At NUS, Jeff was the leader of the team of the United Nations Mondialogo Engineering Award in support of the UN Millennium Development Goals. In 2018, his NUS spin-off company, AiRazor Technologies, won the 2018 InnoFrugal Business Award. Jeff is currently a Visiting Professor to the School of Water, Energy Environment at Cranfield University in the UK, and he recently founded the environmental consultancy company ‘Living Planet’ in Singapore.
