Elana Sztokman published Message from our new Chair, Dr. Elana Sztokman in News 2021-06-23 04:28:08 -0400
It is a great privilege to be writing to you from this new position, leading our important organization during this crucial time in history. Thank you for entrusting me as your Chair.
As Americans and Israelis, we have a distinct role in preserving democratic institutions in our world, during a period in which our cherished democracy is facing threats on multiple fronts. We have vital work ahead of us.
Our vision must be clear and steadfast: We want to see a world in which democracy and humanity thrive. We believe in a civic society based on the unequivocal values of compassion, inclusion, diversity, protection of equality and human rights. These are the ideals that our work is built on.
Our mission is equally pressing: To grow a community of Americans in Israel who are committed to these values and beliefs.
Our work is urgent: To encourage Americans in Israel to participate in the democratic process in America in order to protect democracy today and for future generations.
As we emerge from the shadows of the pandemic, as well as from the cultural and political darkness that fell upon us all in 2016, it is time to rebuild our communities and bring back the light to our shared humanity.
There are many ways for you to do this, by taking part in growing the Dems Abroad community.
* Attend an in-person event – such as the July 4 picnic or Tel Aviv Pride this coming Friday.
* Bring a friend and invite them to join our community – especially one who may not be a member of Dems Abroad yet.
* Volunteer for one of our committees, like Social Media or Get out the Vote, both of which need your help.
Feel free to be in touch with me any time at [email protected]. I’m eager to hear from you.
To new beginnings, together,
Elana Sztokman published Dems Abroad Israel unequivocally condemns the rise in anti-Semitism in America in News 2021-06-21 14:09:36 -0400
Jerusalem, May 28 – Democrats Abroad-Israel unequivocally condemns the increasing wave of antisemitism – an increase of 60% over the past few weeks, according to the ADL – and calls on community leaders and legislators to take all necessary steps to stem the worrying tide. The condemnation follows the statements of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Democratic Party leadership including, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, House Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer, and others who have admirably taken firm stands on the issue.
“The disturbing increase in physical, verbal and online antisemitic attacks in the United States and around the world must be addressed through a combination of enforcement, awareness, and education campaigns and interventions,” says DA-Israel Chair Dr. Elana Sztokman. “In addition, we call on the Republican party to take responsibility for stoking hatred and enabling radical and violent extremists in their midst, as we saw on January 6 and as we hear from people like Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene whose vile conspiracy theories and Holocaust denial have been supported by 199 House Republicans. The failure to act in the face of antisemitism poses a threat not only to Jews but to all endangered minorities and to democracy itself.”
DA Israel applauds the Democratic leadership for taking a stand on this issue.

Meet the International Legal Counsel Candidates
The Democratic Party Committee Abroad (DPCA) will soon be electing new leadership. The Global Executive Committee (ExCom) will lead Democrats Abroad for the next two years, giving guidance and support to the leaders and volunteers around the world. DPCA voting representatives elected from each country committee -- including four representatives from Israel -- will be electing the Global Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Legal Counsel.
In advance of this meeting, it is important for us to become familiar with the legal counsel candidates in order to make informed votes. We want our members to have the opportunity to hear from these candidates, and we also welcome DPCA voting representatives from other country committees to attend and ask questions.
As such, you are invited to an online event to meet the candidates.
Here are the recordings of the events:

If your state requires you to mail in your ballot and you want to avoid the USPS, you have three choices for how to send in your ballot from Israel:
Plan A: Hand-deliver your ballot to either the American Embassy in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv by October 2 from where it will be delivered to your LEO via diplomatic pouch (assuming you are able to get there subject to lockdown rules).
Plan B: Send your ballot via local delivery service to the American Embassy in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv by October 2where it will then be delivered to your LEO via diplomatic pouch.
* RECOMMENDED Plan C: Send your ballot directly to your Local Election Office (LEO) via international document delivery by October 2.
Important announcement from the American Embassy for mail-in ballots
“Where mail-in ballots are the only option, please consider using a courier service to send your ballot directly to your home state to be counted. If you live far from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, you may also mail ballots via Israel Post or private courier to the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem or the Embassy Branch Office in Tel Aviv. Please consider this only as a last resort, as it will add steps to the process and slow it down. We will then mail your ballots for you to the United States to be delivered to your district office via Diplomatic Pouch. Please note that if you chose to mail your ballots via the U.S. Embassy or the Embassy Branch Office, we cannot guarantee that your ballot will reach your home state in time to be counted. “
Whichever plan you choose, we highly recommend sending in your ballot as soon as possible
To send in your ballot by mail, follow the steps below.Read more
The states that require faxed-in ballots are: AK, CA, FL, LA, and OK, and WY (as one option)
If you vote in one of the states that requires faxed-in ballots, here is what you have to do:

Not sure how to Fax? There’s an app for that. Fill out the attached fax transmission cover sheet: https://www.fvap.gov/uploads/FVAP/Forms/coversheet.pdf ; sign it, and scan it with the ballot materials to [email protected] and FVAP.gov will fax it in for you. Do this at least 10 days before Election Day to allow time for FVAP.gov to fax your ballot to your LEO.
