Global Black Caucus & Black Lives Matter Tokyo Joint Panel Discussion

Join us on January 8, 2022, for a joint panel discussion on Voting Rights and why your vote counts. Swing states (or battleground states), what they are and how the tide for the mid-terms of 2022 can change the balance of power, and why Justice Inequality in today's America highlights the importance of executing your vote.

Panelists Include:

Special Guest – Jaylon Carter Vice-Chair Black Lives Matter Tokyo

Jay is a Social Media Marketing Consultant, a formal National Labor Union Rep and Executive Office, and a Hip Hop artist who performs under the stage name "Timid." Jay is currently the co-chair for Black Lives Matter Tokyo and organizations that educate on racism and discrimination.

Black Lives Matter Tokyo's mission is to strengthen our times with the Japanese community through anti-racist action, community outreach efforts, and education of Black History and the history of racism and discrimination to move towards a more culturally diverse and understanding environment for all.

Teresa Ritterhoff (she/her) – GOTV (Get Out The Vote) Coordinator for Democrats Abroad Germany

Teresa is a founding member of DA's Wisconsinites Abroad. She holds a PH.D. in Comparative Literary Studies from Northwestern University and teaches at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany. She votes in Illinois. Teresa lives in Wiesbaden with her husband, sons, and dog Loki all of whom are feminists.

Sarajean Rossitto -Chair Democrats Abroad Japan

Sarajean Rossitto is a long-term Japan resident and the Chair DA Japan.  This is Sarajean's first time as a national officer but organizing DAJ events since getting involved in Democrats Abroad in 2003 (i.e. served on most committees and organized the annual women's march since 2017). 

A lifelong activist who, while a theater student got involved in anti-apartheid, took back the night and ACT-UP movement. Sarajean is a Lecturer at Temple University, Japan Campus, and Sophia University teaches about civil society in Japan, gender in Japan, social movements in the US, and sustainable development. Sarajean also focuses on non-profit consultants on organization and skills development.
