“No Dictators” is more than just a slogan; it’s the foundation upon which the United States of America was built. President Trump is misusing his executive powers to seek retribution against his political adversaries, including the former FBI director, and stifle free speech by pressuring networks to fire TV personalities who criticize him. In a recent memorandum ostensibly targeting radical leftwing groups, President Trump issued what critics fear is a broad crackdown on political opponents. These actions are without precedent and have raised alarm among expert political commentators who see an erosion of the country’s democratic principles.

Sweden’s No Dictators demonstrations were organized in concert with hundreds of planned protests throughout the United States for the same day -- protests that drew an estimated seven million participants. Here in Stockholm and Malmö, the demonstrations were organized by Democrats Abroad Sweden, a country committee of Democrats Abroad. Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party arm for the nine million Americans living outside the United States.

Despite Trump dominating the headlines, Democrats have significant momentum electorally. Since Trump took office, Democrats have won 44 of 45 key elections, in some cases flipping districts which recently voted for Trump by wide margins.

This year’s special elections set the stage for the November 2026 Congressional elections, when all 435 members of the US House of Representatives and a third of the US Senate will be up for election. Trump and his acolytes are trying to rig the election in their favor through gerrymandering, voter suppression and other tactics that fly in the face of Democracy. California’s Prop 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, is one way Democrats are fighting back.

“We can't vote them out if we don’t vote,” Democrats Abroad Sweden Chair Carolyn Glynn said.

"In 2022, 12 Congressional races were determined by less than 1% of the vote. In these races, Americans abroad routinely make up the margin of difference! At this crucial time in our nation's history, it’s never been more important to VOTE, and DA is hard at work mobilizing our members to do so.”
