Join your fellow Americans in Porto for a Fourth of July potluck picnic. Bring a dish to share (your choice! that's the fun of a potluck!), and your own beverage.
We'll grab some tables near the Pavilhão da Àgua (NE part of park) but there may not be enough for all, so bring chairs/blankets for sitting if you can.
Feel free to bring outdoor games, frisbees, etc. If you're a musician, we'd love to hear you play - feel free to bring instruments!WHENJuly 04, 2022 at 12:00pmWHEREParque de Cidade near Pavilão de Agua

Kristi Espineira published 18 Reasons to Vote From Abroad - New Video Produced by Portugal Volunteers! in News 2022-01-26 13:28:03 -0500
On January 15, International Voter Registration Day, we released a video created by a team of volunteers from Portugal. The video is entitled "18 Reasons to Vote from Abroad" and features 18 Democrats Abroad Portugal members sharing their reasons to vote. DA volunteer and filmmaker Nancy Novack donated her time and talent to editing this video. We're grateful to all who participated in helping to get this message out.
We hope you enjoy the video! Please share it with Americans around the world!

On April 29, our new Executive Committee held its first virtual meet-and-greet with over 25 members from all over Portugal in attendance. After introductions and a brief overview of the structure and mission of Democrats Abroad, we held a brainstorming session about events and programs our members would like to see in the upcoming months. Some ideas being considered are:
- Fourth of July events
- “Road show” of Executive Committee team in various locales in Portugal
- Webinars on current “hot” political issues (voter suppression, gerrymandering, racial justice, police reform)
- Virtual book club
- Pub quiz/trivia nights
- Film screenings
- Action-oriented (phone banking for special elections, park or beach cleanup, foodbank volunteering)
Because DA Portugal is, first and foremost, a community, we would love to hear from all of our members about what events and programs would appeal to you. And of course, we will need volunteers to help make this happen.

We have big news: We are once again a fully-compliant Democrats Abroad country committee! This means our group has more autonomy and access to resources to organize, connect, and advocate!
At our Annual General Meeting on March 11, the Nominations and Elections Committee wrapped up a months-long process that culminated in the election of a new Executive Committee to lead DA Portugal. Our Executive Committee consists of:
- Kristi Holmes Espineira, Chair
- Andres Espineira, Vice Chair
- Luci Dick, Secretary
- Linda Weygant, Treasurer
- Terry Recht, Counsel
You can learn more about our team here. We would like to thank the Nominations and Election Committee (Sonya Day, Terri Blakely, Amy Kraushaar and Mark Reynolds) and the DA Regional Vice Chair for EMEA (Europe Middle East and Africa) for all their hard work in organizing the election and the Annual General Meeting.
We also want to extend enormous gratitude to everyone who has joined, volunteered, voted, and helped others vote, over the past year and a half or so - you were a huge part of building the momentum that led us to this point!
Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with questions, comments or ideas for events (virtual or in-person). And if you are willing to volunteer in ways big or small, we’d love to hear that too!
I believe that all Democrats abroad have a role to play in helping to promote the Democratic values of justice, opportunity, equity, and prosperity for ALL Americans, starting from the foundation of keeping our fellow Americans informed on and engaged with the electoral process.
My husband Andrés and I moved to Porto in 2019, and we became involved with Democrats Abroad shortly thereafter. My professional background is in communications, marketing, and fundraising. You can check out my LinkedIn profile for more professional details. There is nothing I enjoy more than working with enthusiastic, engaged people in the service of a common cause. It is my privilege to dedicate my time and talents to the ongoing success of Democrats Abroad Portugal.
