Proud mom and dad of Lesbian Air Force Officer

My daughter, Kayla, is a superstar! She was selected twice as company grade officer of the year, and she is promoting to Major this year. Kayla is stationed in Germany and met a beautiful German woman, Didi. They are now engaged. However, Kayla wants to get married before transferring back to the United States. She is afraid of the Supreme Court rescinding some of their decisions--especially on gay marriage. The LGBTQ community do not deserve to feel the burden of 'being different' societal or through our legal justice system. PASS THE EQUALITY ACT!! Doug and Diane Haven

  • The Equal Rights Act is long overdue - now is the time!

The ERA was a hot topic when I was in high school in the 1970s. One of my friends claimed that the ERA would give men the right to use women's bathrooms. Women would be at risk. Where did my friend get this? At church. A scare tactic to drum up opposition to equal rights for all. Some things never change: we're hearing the same fear mongering today to justify laws that bar transgender people from using the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity. Equality is about improving lives. It’s nothing to be afraid of. The best way to protect girls and women is to guarantee us equal rights under the US Constitution. invite_Day_Racial_Equity_Habit_Building_Challenge_.png

Have you ever made a successful change in your life? Perhaps you wanted to exercise more, eat less, or change jobs? Think about the time and attention you dedicated to the process. A lot, right? Change is hard. Creating effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of power, privilege, supremacy, and leadership is like any lifestyle change. Setting our intentions and adjusting what we spend our time doing is essential. It’s all about building new habits. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. The good news is, there’s an abundance of resources just waiting to empower you to be a more effective player in the quest for equity and justice.

About the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge

    • For 21 days, do one action to further your understanding of power, privilege, supremacy, oppression, and equity
    • This plan includes suggestions for readings, podcasts, videos, observations, and ways to form and deepen community connections. Suggestions are in the following categories:

    READ

    LISTEN

    WATCH

    NOTICE

    CONNECT

    ENGAGE

    ACT

    REFLECT

    STAY INSPIRED

    TIPS FOR SUCCESS

    • Choose one activity per day to further your understanding of power, privilege, supremacy, oppression, and equity.
    • Diversify your habits by doing some of each.
    • Use the tracking chart provided here to stay on course. You can download the editable spreadsheet or a PDF for printing.
    • We think understanding white privilege and white supremacy is a powerful lens into the complexities of doing social justice work, so we’ve focused our resources on that specific issue.

Cleve Jones "This is Not My First Pandemic"

    Cleve_Jones_20191201-8675_(cropped).jpg

Cleve Jones will speak about "This is not my first pandemic" to Democrats Abroad in a webinar hosted by Solidarity Sundays Austria and the Democrats Abroad Global LGBTI Caucus.

Cleve will discuss and draw the parallels between the AIDS and COVID-19 government then and now. Both pandemics began with a Republican president in the White House who did not perceive the gravity of the situation and failed to lead the country. Please make a donation today and make a difference with Democrats Abroad!

  • Martha McDevitt-Pugh, DNC Representative, Global

I’m running for DNC Representative because I care about the lives of Americans living abroad and their families. I will serve Democrats Abroad as an advocate for our platform and make our needs known at all levels of the DNC. I have been working for legislative change as an advocate and activist for almost two decades. I will bring stories of our lived experiences abroad to critical issues, such as universal access to affordable healthcare, tax reform, immigration and the climate crisis. As an LGBT woman, I bring diverse representation to the DA DNC team. Having a strong and diverse team expands DA’s reach and enables us to work hand in hand with the constituencies, caucuses, and councils that comprise the DNC. https://www.MarthaDNC2024.com

Healthcare Stories: No financial worries when recovering from hosptalization #DAresists #Medicare4all

No financial worries when recovering from hosptalization #DAresists #Medicare4all

In the Netherlands, I spent 2 weeks in the hospital to treat a major infection. I never saw a bill. I didn't have to worry about how I was going to pay. My treatment in the hospital and recovery at home was fully covered and all administration was handled by the insurance company. I could focus on getting well.
