DLCC Senior Staff Visits DA Germany!

In Hamburg, during the weekend of February 23rd, Democrats Abroad Germany hosted its 2018 Annual General Meeting. With over 100 members attending from across all ten chapters and twenty-three precincts, a major focus of the weekend was getting out the vote for upcoming midterm elections among our membership and the importance of electing Democrats at all levels.

To highlight this theme, Saturday evening’s gala dinner featured a keynote address from Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) National Development Director, Josh Handelman. He has served in this position since January of 2017. Preceding his current role, Josh has served on the finance teams of five U.S. Senate campaigns and was most recently the National Finance Director for Katie McGinty's U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania - ultimately the most expensive Senate race in history. He was previously National Finance Director for U.S. Senator Brian Schatz's successful 2014 election campaign in Hawaii.

Pulling from his campaign experience and current role, Josh underscored the importance of state houses in our national political landscape across the spectrum. State legislature impact spans from their responsibility of drawing congressional district lines following the 2020 census, to their roles of passing laws which have a direct impact on day to day life of their constituents. Handelman also spoke of current national news topics such as court review of state-level gerrymandering, especially of note in the PA and NC maps.

The DLCC recruits, trains, and supports local Democrats running for state legislative office. They lend candidates resources, field support, and the data they need to run smart, winning campaigns. To learn more about DLCC activities and how you can support them, visit http://www.dlcc.org
