Walk & Talk through the Narcissus 2025
A Saturday walk with Democrats Abroad through the carpets of flowers that dabble the foothills of the Riviera region. On the steep, open slopes, a few hundred meters above the lake edge, several species of wild narcissus have found their perfect habitat. Often called ‘la neige de mai,’ the annual bloom has been featured on tourism posters and postcards, and from 1897 to 1957, la Fête des Narcisses, featuring orchestras and parades, was the flagship event of Montreux.
Details of the walk: Our adventure will begin with a 38-minute train ride departing from the Vevey train station Platform 7 on the 10:05 AM to Les Pleiades. There is only ONE train per hour to Les Pleiades. This will be an easy 1 hour 30-minute walk, approx 5 km, at a leisurely pace for plenty of photography, plus an hour's picnic lunch pause. The hikers will pick up the train back to Vevey from the Lally train station at either 12:47 or 13:47 PM.
What to wear and bring: Wear layers and good walking shoes; we will be on paved roads for only about 0.5 km at the end. Bring your picnic lunch and beverages.
Where: Meet on Platform 7 of the Vevey train station before or at 10 AM CET.
Public transport: Trains to Vevey.
Car: Paid parking at Vevey station garage.
