Walk & Talk through the Narcissus in bloom
RSVPA Saturday walk with Democrats Abroad through the carpets of flowers that dapple the foothills of the Riviera region. On the steep, open slopes, a few hundred meters above the lake edge, several species of wild narcissus have found their perfect habitat. Often called ‘la neige de mai’, the annual bloom has been featured on tourism posters and postcards, and from 1897 to 1957, the Narcissi Festival, featuring orchestras and parades, was the flagship event of Montreux. See https://www.narcisses.com/.
Details of the walk: Our adventure will begin with a short train ride departing from the Montreux station (either the 10:17 or the 10:21 AM departure - TBD based on bloom conditions). This will be a 2.5 to 3-hour walk, approx 8-10 km at a leisurely pace for plenty of photography, plus an hour's picnic lunch pause.
What to wear and bring: Wear layers and good walking shoes; we will not stay on paved roads. Bring your picnic lunch and beverages.
Rain date: None
Public transport: Trains or buses to Montreux Station. Car: Paid parking at Montreux station garage.
Meet on the Montreux station platform between tracks 3 and 4 (on a wide open space next to the top-most level of the covered parking garage) at 10 AM CET. Allow time to buy ticket for 10:17 AM train.
