Democrats Abroad announces that Andrew Yang has qualified for the Global Presidential Primary

On Monday, December 2nd, Andrew Yang finalized filing to participate in the Democrats Abroad 2020 Global Presidential Primary.

The primary will run from March 3rd to March 10th, 2020. Americans abroad will have the opportunity to vote at more than 100 voting centers around the world, as well as via postal mail, fax and email. 

“The Global Presidential Primary and Delegate Selection Process ensures Americans abroad have the opportunity to easily participate in the Democratic primary process while also bringing our unique issues to the attention of Democratic presidential candidates,” explained Julia Bryan, Democrats Abroad Global Chair. 

Democrats Abroad represents the millions of Democratic voters living abroad and voting in all 50 states. All Americans living outside the United States may participate in the Global Presidential primary and run for a convention delegate position, provided they are eligible to vote and turn 18 on or before November 3, 2020, and that they are Democrats Abroad members. 

Democrats Abroad will send 13 pledged delegates and 8 automatic delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin next July. The results of the Global Presidential Primary will determine which candidates the delegates represent at the Convention.  

Democrats Abroad looks forward to hosting the first Super Tuesday Democratic primary elections, with first ballots cast in New Zealand more than 24 hours before voting centers open on the U.S. East Coast. 

Democrats Abroad strives to ensure that the party’s delegation to the 2020 Democratic National Convention (DNC) accurately reflects the diversity of Democrats Abroad. To that end, the Affirmative Action Committee of Democrats Abroad works to make certain that opportunities exist for those from historically-disadvantaged groups to run for delegate positions. 

Democrats Abroad's delegation to the Democratic National Convention must be equally divided by gender,* and we strive to meet a set of ambitious diversity goals to ensure that our delegation reflects the diversity of our members. These diversity goals are not mandatory, but electors voting for our delegates take these goals into serious consideration when casing their ballots.

Democrats Abroad Delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention are obligated to attend the convention in person, from July 13 to July 16 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While there are no fees or dues required to become a delegate, Democrats Abroad does not cover the cost of flights, hotels or incidentals for the national convention. We have provided a general estimate for your reference.

The Global Presidential Primary
The Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary runs from March 3 to March 10, 2020 at hundreds of voting centers around the world. Democrats Abroad will send delegates to the Democratic National Convention this July who reflect the results of the primary. 

• Primary Voters must meet the following criteria to vote
  • Reside abroad and be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a member of Democrats Abroad
  • Be 18 as of November 3, 2020
  • Not have voted, or plan to vote, in any other 2020 state presidential primary
• Democrats Abroad allows same day registration for voters participating in the Global Presidential Primary 
• Voters may register in-person or by signing up at https://www.democratsabroad.org/join
• Voters abroad may also vote by downloading a ballot and emailing or postal mailing it to Democrats Abroad from February 18, 2020 through March 10, 2020. Ballots must be received by DA prior to 12:00 am Pacific Standard Time on March 11, 2020.
