October 2024 Newsletter: Your Vote, Our Victory—How to Cast Your Ballot
Message from DA Spain Chair
You already know that the upcoming elections are a) critical to stopping the rise of fascism and Christian nationalism in the USA, and b) alarmingly close. In past elections, our members have provided the margin of victory for democracy, and we can do it again. But we can only succeed if we all VOTE.
Members of DA Spain have been working tirelessly to mobilize our voters. We've been calling and writing to ensure that you have everything you need to register, request your ballot, and return it on time, following the (increasingly complex) rules of the various states. We are assisting voters in person, by phone, and online to ensure every ballot counts. When local election officials try to undermine the right to vote from abroad, we enlist voter protection experts. We're also keeping voters updated with the latest election information. All of this effort is focused on one goal: making sure you VOTE.
With your help—your ballot—we can ensure that the torch of leadership passes safely to a new generation of progressive leaders. We can continue building a more open, diverse, and free society. But we can only do this if you VOTE.
So VOTE!

August 2024 Newsletter: Commitment Leads to Victory
Message from DA Spain Chair
Will Rogers used to quip that he wasn’t a member of any organized political party because he was a Democrat, so I don’t know if he’d recognize us right now.
United we stand. And our commitment will lead us to victory.
Ever since Kamala Harris became our presumptive nominee for President, Democrats Abroad has seen a tremendous upsurge in membership, volunteers, and enthusiasm. Adding Tim Walz to the ticket has only multiplied that effect.
It’s an exciting time to be a Democrat! But our enthusiasm won’t count for much if we don’t do the work that will bring Democratic victories up and down the ballot.
Democrats Abroad Spain is full of committed, action-minded people who work hard to spread the word on why we need to participate and vote from abroad. And we need you to join us! This newsletter will inform you about the many ways you can help elect good people who will enact good policies and take our country into a better future.
We all understand the assignment. Let’s get to work!

May 2024 Newsletter: How DA Spain Exemplifies Patriotism
Message from DA Spain Chair
My husband and I recently enjoyed a Bruce Springsteen concert in Cardiff, Wales, where he performed non-stop and, of course, sang his iconic song, “Born in the USA.”
Many people mistakenly interpret the song as a blindly supportive anthem for the United States, equating that sentiment with patriotism. However, in reality, “Born in the USA” narrates the experiences of a troubled Vietnam veteran, shedding light on the challenges of being American.
To me, true patriotism lies in acknowledging and addressing the complexities of our country. As members of Democrats Abroad, we deeply understand this sentiment. We demonstrate our love for our nation by investing our time and resources in electing leaders who champion democracy and individual liberties. We recognize both the successes and shortcomings of our country, and we actively advocate for positive change when necessary.
If you share our vision of patriotism —one that celebrates the nation's strengths while striving to rectify its flaws —we invite you to join us in supporting Democratic candidates this November. While our candidates may not be flawless, they are committed to upholding democracy and fostering a fairer society, unlike their counterparts.
Like Bruce Springsteen, I was born in the USA, and I am dedicated to fighting for its betterment.

DA-Spain March 2024 Newsletter: Coming Together for Democracy
Message from DA Spain Chair
Hello! Lately I’ve been pondering the words of Walt Whitman, that quintessential American poet whom I deeply admire. One of his lines from "Leaves of Grass'' has been echoing in my mind: "I Sing the Body Electric." This phrase evokes a sense of energy, vitality, connection, and hope.
We, my friends, are the embodiment of that electric spirit!
This electric bond becomes palpable when we come together to strategize and collaborate, like we did at our recent Annual General Meeting. It's present when we gather for social activities, whether it's sharing a meal, participating in trivia nights, enjoying a café con leche and conversation, or writing postcards to American voters. The charge intensifies during phone banking sessions as we exchange stories, united by our shared commitment to democracy. And the surge is undeniable when we cast our votes in the Global Presidential Primary, reaffirming our belief in the power to shape a better nation and defying those who seek to undermine democracy.
We are the body electric, a community that rejoices in togetherness. While you may not read about it in the headlines — decency rarely garners attention — it's undeniably real and thriving in our communities. Join us in celebrating this spirit by participating in the various events Democrats Abroad Spain has to offer across the country.
Let's keep the energy alive and make a difference together!
