What's Happening: Understanding the Current Immigration Crisis in the U.S.

Things are happening fast in the United States and it's hard to understand what everything means. This is especially true when looking at all of the immigrant-related atrocities that have been happening over the last few months. Join us on Wednesday, July 16th to hear from lawyer Andy Kang, who has extensive experience in immigrant rights. He will help us better understand the current state of affairs, such as what is going on with all these ICE raids and what the future of birthright citizenship looks like. We will also ask about what is being done to fight against the government's efforts and what all this may mean for the future of immigration in the United States.

Our Speaker: Andy Kang

Andy Kang is The Asian American Foundation’s (TAAF) Co-Director of Safety, formerly its National Director of Anti-Hate, and brings over a decade of experience in community work. He joined TAAF after having served as Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition (PIC) and co-chair of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), the largest national grassroots immigrant rights network. Prior to PIC, Andy served as Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago, where his team led the launch of the TEAACH Act, which made Illinois the first state in the country to mandate the teaching of Asian American history at the secondary level. In response to the rise in anti-Asian violence in Chicago, Andy also launched local bystander intervention trainings in partnership with Right to Be and successfully advocated for the re-establishment of the Illinois Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes.
