Bio:Dr. Benjamin Franta is a JD-PhD Candidate at Stanford Law School and the Stanford University
Department of History. His research investigates the history of climate science and climate denial. He has a PhD in applied physics from Harvard University and was a research fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he led a project in the Philippines to understand how to reduce deaths and damages from climate-related disasters. At Harvard he helped to lead the internationally recognized fossil fuel divestment campaign and with co-plaintiffs filed the world’s first fossil fuel divestment litigation. More recently, his investigative piece revealing the US petroleum industry’s knowledge of global warming in the 1950s became one of the top five articles of all time in The Guardian’s “97%” climate section. His work has been cited in the US Congressional Record, translated into twelve languages, and published in Nature Climate Change, The Guardian, Project Syndicate, and other outlets.
