Democrats Abroad Chile also held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, April 18, and it was clear that our members are fired up and ready to get to work to fight the Trump agenda and prepare for 2018! We listened to your suggestions - keep an eye out for our upcoming events. Meeting minutes are attached for those that couldn't make it. DA Chile is also happy to announce that the following members have been elected to our Executive Committee for the 2017-2019 term: Brittany Brown (Chair), Josh Tan (Vice Chair and IT Lead), Mary Laverty (Treasurer), Alli Engle (Secretary), Erin Becker (DA Patagonia Lead), Giselle Gibbons (Fundraising Lead), and Penelope Knuth (Community Outreach Lead).
Democrats Abroad Chile is excited to announce its first regional group, Democrats Abroad Patagonia.
Members will meet to discuss politics and policy, host voter registration drives, volunteer for Democratic candidates, engage with other progressive groups in the community, and––of course––have a good time with like-minded Americans!
Initial meetings will be held in the Puerto Varas/Puerto Montt area. The group hopes to expand to more areas in the South of Chile, and even cross the border to foster relationships with Democrats in Argentina.
In an area so rich with natural beauty, Democrats Abroad Patagonia also plans to be a strong voice for environmental issues within the global Democrats Abroad community.
Get involved! If you live or spend time in the south of Chile, please send an email to the DA Patagonia lead, Erin Becker: email@example.com.
Additionally, if you know someone who lives in the south of Chile and may be interested, please share the news about this group.
Conversations & Cocktails: Perspectives from Abroad
What can *you* teach your elected officials?
As Democrats living abroad, we have an advantage. We get to see the United States from the outside in. Living in a different country, with a different political system, a different health system, different policies and laws and more, we have a unique perspective.
This is why Democrats Abroad Chile is hosting another event to help you get in touch with the folks who represent YOU––and share the great ideas and insights you've gained while living outside the US!
From public health systems, to parental leave policies, to campaign finance, to gun control and more, there are a lot of things countries outside the US are getting right. So let's use our knowledge as Democrats *abroad* to help our elected officials make choices that will move our country forward!
We'll also talk about upcoming local and state elections, and have materials and info on hand to make sure everyone's registered to receive their absentee ballots.
All are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
