Call Script for H.R. 1 & H.R. 4

Tell your representative and senators why you strongly support both bills, in full.

Hello. I am a constituent who votes in [CITY, STATE], but I currently live in [CITY, COUNTRY].

I'm calling in support of H.R. 1, the For the People Act, and H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act.

If your rep supports these bills: I want to thank the congress(wo)man for supporting H.R. 1. I was so glad to see (his/her) support, and that Democrats prevented Republicans from weakening the bill. I ask that the congress(wo)man protect H.R. 4 just as strongly, and to pease support amendments to strengthen this bill, and reject amendments which weaken it. This is not something that we can allow Republicans to water down.

If your rep does not support these bills: I was incredibly disappointed to see that the congress(wo)man did not support H.R. 1 (and/or) has not yet co-sponsored H.R. 4. Voter disenfranchisement, elections corruption and campaign finance are serious issues in our country, and I am very concerned that the congress(wo)man has failed to stand up for what’s right.

It is important to me that you understand that I am not calling today about voter fraud. Incidents of voter fraud are around 0.0003 PERCENT, so this is not the issue. The issue I am calling about today is about addressing the fact that millions of Americans are disenfranchised every election cycle, and this is something that we must fix. If the congress(wo)man fails to do so, (s)he will be failing [state] voters.

When can we expect to see the congress(wo)man endorse the Voting Rights Advancement Act?

If calling your senators: I know that Speaker McConnell is planning to block any companion bill to H.R. 1, and I’m sure he’ll do the same for H.R. 4. But I need to see the Senator fighting to ensure that voting rights are protected for all Americans, including those living abroad like myself.

I ask that the Senator support any forthcoming companion bills of H.R. 1 and H.R. 4, as well as any additional legislation to expand voting access, keep special interest money out of politics, and improve government ethics through greater transparency of the financial interests of our elected and appointed officials. Please do not support any amendments that would water down such a bill. I want a strong piece of legislation that ensures the government is working for the people.

As an American citizen voting by absentee ballot, I need to know that all votes are counted. Protecting voting rights, addressing corruption and reforming campaign finance are bipartisan priorities that make our democracy better for all Americans, regardless of their political affiliation.
