Resistance Reading

Knowledge is a powerful tool against oppression. Hosting a Resistance Reading Room helps your team gain perspective, strengthens your conversational chops, and builds solidarity through shared learning. You are, in effect, equipping yourselves with an armory of information to challenge injustice and take action.

So grab a book, start a conversation, and strengthen the resistance one page at a time.

Before the meeting:

  • Select a theme or focus for the reading session (e.g., social justice, civil rights, climate action).
  • Curate a list of recommended books, articles, and resources (a few suggestions below!).
  • Prepare discussion questions to guide the conversation.

During the meeting:

  • Discuss the selected reading materials and share personal insights.
  • Facilitate an open dialogue about key themes and ideas presented in the readings.
  • Encourage participants to share additional resources or experiences related to the topics.

Follow-up:

  • Summarize key takeaways and insights from the discussion.
  • Share a list of additional reading materials and resources with participants.
  • Encourage participants to continue discussions outside the meeting and plan the next reading session.
  • Share ideas for readings with Democrats Abroad at [email protected]
