Candidate Statement for Ann Hesse

DAG Stuttgart Chapter Chair Candidate Statement

Ann Hesse

Candidate for Democrats Abroad Stuttgart Chapter Chair, 2017-2019

Our Stuttgart Chapter is one of the largest in Germany.  I’d like to see us realize our potential to become a positive, vibrant and active group. Here is how we can start:

Let’s educate ourselves with guest speakers, workshops, teach-ins, Film nights, and discussion groups.

Let’s be vigilant watchdogs! Let’s monitor and influence legislation at home with DA phone and letter-writing campaigns and let us strengthen our chapter caucuses.

Let’s become a more cohesive group through chapter-wide activities. Let’s hold online conferences, encourage greater precinct activity, and become savvy users of social media.

Let’s also have fun as we get to know each other through social, GOTV, membership-building and family-oriented events.

As your chapter chair, I would be honored to devote myself to working towards these goals.

Twenty years ago I left California for a musical career in Germany. I married here, raised two daughters and worked hard to become fully integrated into my German community. I also remained passionately interested in US politics.

Through Democrats Abroad, and especially through my work as co-chair of the DA Global Women’s Caucus, I have realized that because we can see our country from an international perspective, our contributions can be uniquely valuable and our impact powerful.

Now more than ever, Americans abroad have a responsibility to help our country through a difficult time. I would love the opportunity to roll up my sleeves and get to work in Stuttgart!
