State Department Federal Credit Union

U.S. Banking Options for Americans Living Abroad

Living abroad can make access to U.S. financial services more complicated. Americans overseas may need a U.S. account to manage payments, transfer funds, receive certain benefits, maintain financial connections in the United States, or handle other cross-border financial needs.

Democrats Abroad is now a group member of the State Department Federal Credit Union (SDFCU), expanding access to U.S. financial services for eligible Democrats Abroad members worldwide.

SDFCU is a U.S.-based, full-service federal credit union with experience serving members who live internationally.

Banking Designed for a Global Life

For many Americans abroad, maintaining access to a U.S. financial institution can be difficult. Some financial institutions restrict services for customers with foreign addresses, international phone numbers, or other cross-border needs.

SDFCU serves a globally mobile membership and offers financial services that may help eligible members manage their U.S. banking needs while living overseas.

Services and Features

Depending on eligibility and the products selected, SDFCU services and features may include:

  • U.S.-based checking and savings accounts
  • Online and mobile banking access
  • Support for international addresses and phone numbers
  • International money transfers and multiple-currency transfer options
  • Credit card options with no foreign transaction fees on eligible products
  • Mobile wallet integration
  • Membership opportunities for eligible family members*
