Sea levels and temperatures in the Caribbean are rising. Coral reefs are dying. Hurricanes are becoming more intense.
What can we in the Caribbean do about it? Consider these facts:
- President Biden returned the US to the international Paris Agreement on climate change, which affects us all. In 2022, the Biden administrationsigned the Inflation Reduction Act into law, the most comprehensive climate legislation the U.S. has ever seen.
- Meanwhile, former President Trump recently requested $1 billion in campaign contributions from fossil fuel industry executives, promising in turn to roll back environmental regulations.
So, to help protect the seas and shores we love, we can act by voting for the officials who care. If you haven’t yet, register and request your absentee ballot at www.votefromabroad.org.
Then be sure to join us at the virtual/online Democrats Abroad Caribbean Islands 2024 Annual General Meeting Thursday, June 27th 4:30pm ET. RSVP here to let us know you're coming: RSVP
Since Country Committee Elections are held every other year, there will be no elections this time. There is, however, an opening for Vice Chair, and candidates need to be male or bi in accordance with the DNC and DA's diversity requirements. So bi folks and gents, it's your chance to step up!
After a report from our Chair, Christine Burstein, we will also use the occasion to come together and build enthusiasm for the job of turning out the Caribbean Islands' vote. Whether you're a seasoned member or new to our community, we welcome you to participate. Learn how you can get involved and help make the margins of victory possible in 2024!
