2026 is a crucial election year. Here in Madrid, we have a wide range of volunteer opportunities for those ready to get involved:
-
Events organization: Support the DA Madrid Events Coordinator in organizing events. This could include recruiting speakers, identifying venues, day-of support, etc. We are always open to new ideas and encourage you to think about events you can organize in your area of the city, around topics of interest to you, and more. Specific needs currently include:
- Voter registration events
- Events with speakers on topics of interest to DA members
- Gatherings for phone-banking
- A speed networking event
- Fundraising events (previous fundraisers have included house parties, wine tastings, and movie screenings, but we are always open to ideas)
- Phonebanking: You can only vote once, but calling multiplies your vote and amplifies your voice, helps and empowers overseas voters to cast their one vote, and helps make the USA a truly participatory democracy. In 2024, DA callers made 350,000+ calls and sent 300,000+ texts. In 2026, DA Spain is calling our own members March-May, and then we will have global campaigns for the midterms in August-November. These calls make a difference, so please join us in reaching out to as many voters as possible! You can find all the information you need to get trained here. This is very rewarding work that can be done from the comfort of your home on your own time!
- Voter registration assistance: Help US overseas voters get their ballots and VOTE! By getting trained, you'll be prepared to answer questions about voting from overseas whenever they come up and be able to help at any of our in-person voter events. You can find all the information you need to get trained here. We need more volunteers who are voter assistance trained!
- Study abroad outreach: Help us reach US students studying abroad in Madrid so that they vote while here! This entails outreach to study abroad programs, presentations at orientation events, tabling, and more.
- Fundraising: Help strategize and organize our chapter's fundraising activities. We are fundraising to support DA Spain's Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts, including digital advertising to ensure we reach as many US citizens as possible and make sure they exercise their right to vote!
- Spokespeople: Get DA media-trained (a 2-hour session with DA Global's amazing team) and be available for interviews with the press. Ideally you're bilingual English-Spanish, but not required.
- Social media management and/or content creation support: Support the DA Madrid Communications Director in creating content for our communications efforts or in managing our social media.
- Women's Caucus organizing: In coordination with the DA Spain and Global Women's Caucus, organize events and advocacy around women's rights here in Madrid.
- Youth Caucus organizing: Help organize engagement with the Madrid-based Youth Caucus (designed for members under 35 years old).
- LGBTQ+ Caucus organizing: Help organize events and activities with the Madrid-based LGBTQ+ Caucus.
If any of these opportunities are of interest, or if there’s another way you’d like to get involved, please send us an e-mail at [email protected]
Democrats Abroad is an entirely volunteer-run organization whose success relies on the generous time and dedication of its members. We cannot do this without you!
We look forward to working together to ensure a Blue Wave this November!
