Memorial Day Service
We invite you to join us as we honor our veterans at the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Florence American Cemetery, located on the Via Cassia, just past Tavarnuzze. As many of you know, this moving 70-acre site was dedicated in 1960 as the final resting place of 4,932 American military members who died during fighting in Italy during World War II. The Cemetery also honors the 1,409 people who went missing in action during that war.
LOGISTICS:
- The Ceremony starts at 11 AM sharp. Gates will close when the ceremony begins, so no late arrivals will be permitted.
- If you are traveling on your own, please plan to arrive by 10:30 AM (at the latest) as parking and seating are limited. There is a public bus service with the SITA bus departing from the Piazzale Vittorio Veneto near the Porta al Prato tram stop; however, it does not run very often and you have to be sure to take a bus with local service that goes down the Via Cassia.
- If you need transportation (or can offer transportation), please be sure to RSVP, so that we can try to arrange carpools and/or cab shares. In this case, we will meet at Porta Romana at 9:30 AM.
After the ceremony, we invite you to join us for an informal lunch together back towards Florence.
Please RSVP so that we can arrange transportation, find each other during the ceremony, and have an idea of how many people will be joining us for lunch.
Thanks!
