Hanse Kultur Festival in Lübeck

Just a week after our last event, The Lübeck Precinct of Democrats Abroad was at it again. The Hanse Kultur Festival took place on the weekend of June 8 and we had a stand in front of YouSpeak Language School in Beckergrube on Saturday, right in the midst of all the excitement.

For hours and hours members from Lübeck and Hamburg asked our German neighbors if they knew any Americans or could hang up our flyers in their supermarket or favorite cafe. Most were very happy to oblige, keenly aware of the common threats to our democracies. After all the European election on Sunday was on everyone’s mind. Many thanked us for our work. One man said we were an inspiration!

Our mascot was, of course, baby Frieda who was cooed over by the whole team all day. At the end of the day, when I, for one, had no voice or energy left, a young man wandered into YouSpeak and asked what this place was. It turns out he was a New Yorker, who had just moved to Lübeck. A perfect ending to a perfect day!
