Candidate(s) for Chapter Chair

Stephen Brown

I am a recent member of Democrats Abroad and, as it turns out it is an election year. What an opportunity for me to join the association and get involved in its leadership. I have been in Bordeaux for ten years with my wife. I have an engineering degree and PhD in geology, and work as an earth sciences researcher. The current political climate has encouraged me to become more involved. I hope to play an active role within Democrats Abroad Bordeaux Chapter and see a return to normalcy that we expect from our elected officials within the United States government. By engaging with other like-minded individuals abroad, we can demonstrate to the locals in Bordeaux and Nouvelle-Aquitaine that we are here and wish to preserve the mutually respectful relationship in place for decades, while our current administration is doing its best to erode our rapport. Thank you for considering electing me as the Bordeaux Chapter Chair. I am excited to be a part of this organization and will strive to maintain its strong position as a liaison between the Democratic Party based in the United States and those abroad.

Candidate(s) for Chapter Secretary

Virginia Coulon

Long a member of DA France, I have lived more than half my life in Bordeaux, coming first as a student of the University of California’s Study Center at the University of Bordeaux.

I am a candidate for a second term as Secretary for the DA France Bordeaux Chapter. I already know how to do the work (send email blasts to members, manage membership files, post Bordeaux info on DA France’s web site), so I can be efficient right away. If elected, I am eager to begin working with all newly elected chapter officers. Times are more than trying for there are so many fights we have to take on. Trump and his MAGA regime are ripping up the basic Constitutional rights we Americans have so long taken for granted.  The task is even greater for Democrats Abroad members, since MAGA Congress people have recently introduced the ill-named “SAVE” bill. If passed, “SAVE” could take away the Federal voting rights we thought were unalienable. We had thought reproductive rights were unalienable too… Yet another combat to take on! I would be ashamed if I did not do my share in fighting for what we know is right.
