Democrats Abroad Youth – Málaga Chapter
Issue No. 1 | April 2025
What’s Up, Young Americans in Málaga?
We’re launching a new Youth Caucus under Democrats Abroad – Málaga, and we want you on board.
This is a space for young U.S. citizens abroad who are politically engaged, globally minded, and not afraid to turn up the volume (and the voter turnout).
If you are:
- 35 or younger
- A U.S. citizen living in Spain
- Interested in politics, progress, and building community

Then you already belong here.
We’re building something powerful—starting right here on the coast.
What’s the Youth Caucus About?
The Youth Caucus is focused on connection, education, and action. We’ll host voter registration drives, organize political discussion events, and create opportunities for advocacy and community-building.
Our plans include:
-
Informal meetups like Politics & Pinchos
-
Voting assistance and deadlines reminders
-
Conversations on domestic and international issues
-
A consistent space to connect with other young Americans abroad

3 Current Events You Should Know
1. Arizona Abortion Ban from 1864 Is Back
Last week, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled in favor of enforcing a Civil War-era abortion ban. This is a wake-up call about what’s at stake in state-level elections. Our power as overseas voters can tip the scale in close states like Arizona.
2. Tennessee Students Walk Out Over Book Bans & Racism
High school students in Tennessee recently organized a walkout after schools banned books by Black authors and censored AP African American Studies. Young people are leading. Abroad or not, we’re part of the same fight for truth and equity.
3. Biden Canceled More Student Debt—But It’s Complicated
This month, $7.4 billion in student loans were forgiven for some borrowers. Great news, but the system is still confusing and uneven.
We’re watching how these policies affect our generation—and holding leaders accountable.

Why This Matters
We may live abroad, but our lives, rights, and futures are still shaped by U.S. policy. Overseas votes have decided tight elections before—and they’ll do it again.
