Colorado has some of the most closely watched House races in the country, and Democrats abroad can help decide it. Join Democrats Abroad for a conversation with Ambassador Christopher R. Hill, Congressman Jason Crow and CO-8 nominee Manny Rutinel. They’ll talk about what’s at stake this November, America’s standing in the world, and how voters overseas can make their voices heard.
Manny Rutinel is the Democratic nominee for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, the state’s most competitive district and one of the most competitive in the nation. He’s a state representative from Commerce City and a former economist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was raised by a single mother and is running on affordability, protecting Social Security and health care, and getting dark money out of politics. In November he faces Republican incumbent Rep. Gabe Evans.
Congressman Jason Crow represents Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. He’s a former Army Ranger who served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment, and he earned the Bronze Star. Before entering Congress he worked as an attorney helping Colorado veterans get the care and benefits they had earned. He serves on the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committees and focuses on lowering costs, protecting democracy and strengthening national security.
Ambassador Christopher R. Hill is a career American diplomat who has served under seven U.S. presidents since entering the Foreign Service in 1977. A five-time ambassador, he has represented the United States in Iraq, the Republic of Korea, Poland, North Macedonia and, most recently, the Republic of Serbia. As Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, he led U.S. negotiations in the Six-Party Talks on North Korea’s nuclear program. Earlier in his career he was a lead U.S. negotiator in the Dayton peace process that ended the war in Bosnia, and he served as U.S. Special Envoy in the negotiations that helped end the Kosovo War. He has also served on the National Security Council staff and as a Special Assistant to President Clinton. He began his career as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. Ambassador Hill has deep Colorado ties: he served as Dean of the Korbel School at the University of Denver. He is now Executive Director of the Edward R. Murrow Center for Global Diplomacy at the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
