Music has always been a powerful tool for protest. Whether it's a playlist of protest songs or spoken word pieces, creating a protest soundtrack is a way to channel energy, inspire action, and remind us all of the power of collective voices.
Work as a team to curate a playlist that speaks to the heart, from iconic anthems to lesser-known gems. Consider music from lots of decades that represents each generation present to make sure everyone's voice is heard. Once created, share widely.
Before the meeting:
- Choose a theme (e.g., protest songs or chants).
- Research relevant music or spoken word pieces.
- Set up a shared playlist location with your team and let them know the theme of the evening.
During the meeting:
- Discuss the cultural impact of resistance music.
- Curate a playlist together, choosing music from across the years.
- Share and refine the selections as a group.
Follow-up:
- Share playlists on social media channels (@demsabroad) and at [email protected].
- Encourage ongoing contributions.
- Plan a follow-up event, possibly featuring musicians playing the music (consider adding art too!).
