FAX back your CA BALLOT

How to Fax Your California Ballot Without a Fax Machine

California voters are allowed to return their ballots by fax. Ensure your ballot arrives on time!!

It’s easy to return your voted ballot by fax, even without access to an actual fax machine. There are simple and free EMAIL to FAX options - read for more details!

Your FAXED ballot must arrive by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day!

WE NO LONGER RECOMMEND USING THE FVAP FAX SERVICE! They cannot guarantee timely transmission of your ballot. Please use an email to fax app such as those listed below or a physical fax machine at this point.

OPTION ONE: If you do not have access to a fax machine, you can use the DoD FAX SERVICE.

You can email your BALLOT and the FVAP COVER SHEET to [email protected], and FVAP will fax your election materials for you.

  • Does it matter what size paper I use Yes, create US letter-sized PDFs to ensure the ballot information all fits on the fax sheet printout.

  • You must print and fill out this Voter Transmission Cover Sheet-In Bound From Voters. Voters should use this fax transmission cover sheet as a cover sheet when faxing or emailing election materials back to their local election office.

  • You should also fax an "Oath of Voter" form to waive your right to a confidential vote. Please use the oath form your California county provides to you (see NOTE).

  • The DOD Service gets busy closer to the election! Use this service early to ensure your ballot is sent on time.

NOTE: AS OF OCT 30, 2024: DO NOT USE THE FVAP FAX SERVICE!
FVAP CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT FAXES WILL BE SUBMITTED BY THE NOV 5 ELECTION DEADLINE.

NOTE: If you decide to fax your voted ballot and signed Military or Overseas Voter Return Envelope, you must also fax an "Oath of Voter" form to waive your right to a confidential vote. This oath is in addition to the voter's declaration that is on the Military or Overseas Voter Return Envelope. Please use the oath form your county provides to you; however, many counties also accept the "Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) Transmission Cover Sheet (PDF)". Please check with your county before using FVAP's Transmission Cover Sheet.
