FIGHT FOR EQUAL RIGHTS GOES GLOBAL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FIGHT FOR EQUAL RIGHTS GOES GLOBAL

Democrats Abroad, the arm of the U.S. Democratic Party for the millions of Americans living around the world, has called a special meeting to finalize its plans to promote the adoption of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The effort to add the ERA to the Constitution started in 1923.  The required number of states, 38, passed the amendment by January 2020 but the Trump administration refused to complete the protocol of publishing the ratified ERA as the 28th Amendment.

“I’m proud that Democrats Abroad unanimously passed a resolution urging the Biden Administration to publish the fully ratified Equal Rights Amendment and calling on Congress to confirm it is the 28th Amendment to the US Constitution.    Democrats Abroad believes in human rights for all.   We need the ERA.”, said Shari Temple, ERA Taskforce Chair, based in Germany.

Along with action on the amendment, Democrats Abroad supported working for equal pay for women, paid family and maternity leave, accessible childcare, and full economic and gender equality.

The representatives of Democrats Abroad have voted to include this resolution in their platform for the 2024 Presidential Election.  But they will also campaign in person and in the media to have this important amendment complete its final steps.  This arm of the Democratic Party will work to make American voters aware that these rights are already granted to people in 85% of countries around the world.END
