Looking back on the months of July and August, here are a few things that took place—
We celebrated the Fourth of July: They said we have grown to the ripe old age of 250 years. Wow! And I thought I don’t look a day over 70. I guess it must be all the good Austrian food and clean air we have here.
August 14th National Navajo Code Talkers Day: Recognizes the vital WWII code talkers. During one of the battles on Iwo Jima a unit was pinned down and needed artillery support but through normal radio channels it would have taken them 30 minutes to get the fire support. One Navajo code talker was with the unit. He started transmitting to another code talker and the fire support started 30 seconds after this transmission. The Navajo Code Talkers code was never broken. They save thousands of lives. The VA in Arizona took the Tribal Flags out of the entrance way. This was the order of Secretary Doug Collins, one of his first acts of disrespect to our Veterans.
August 21th Statehood Day (Hawaii): Celebrated on the third Friday of August to mark Hawaii joining the US as the 50th State.
August 26th Women’s Equality Day: Observed nationwide to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment giving women the right to vote. Throughout our history of 250 years we have had women in the Arm Services. Some you have never heard of, but they are there. Yet this administration wants to erase their history. These women have contributed their own experiences and sweat and blood and some have lost their lives to keep us safe at home. We have eight of them on the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They have stood and delivered so it is time for us to make our stand and not forget their sacrifices and register to vote by going to Vote From Abroad.org.
