Are you looking for ways to resist? Here are some ideas.

Democrats Abroad are organizing, resisting, and taking action. Please check out our Resistance Roundtables and sign up for our Take Action Newsletter! You'll find all of them here.

There are loads of ideas here and, taken as a whole, it is a bit overwhelming. So, why not get your resistance feet damp by making a call or sending an email to your Representative or Senator?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reminds us that Republicans are EIGHT TIMES more likely to call their congress people than Democrats!

And before you cringe at the expense of calling the US from Greece, there is a way to do it without considerable cost - except in your time: dust off the Skype account you haven’t used in yonks and get it up and running. Check to see if you have call/phone credit in there. If so, start at step one below.

➡️Note: Skype will be retired at the end of April to be replaced by Microsoft Teams. If you do not have Skype credit already in your account, or, if you do not already have an active Skype account, you won’t be able to call. In that case, why not send an email instead? See below at 5.

  1. Start with 5calls.org. Enter your US voting address or zip code so 5calls can connect you easily with your representatives.

  2. From the list on the left of the 5calls website, identify an issue that is important to you and click on it.

  3. This will take you to a page with a description of the issue and the names and phone numbers of your Representative and Senators. You will see a short text prepared by the 5calls team. You can read this to the staffer who answers your call or use it to craft an email to your Rep or Senators.

  4. ➡️For Skype callers only: Click on a phone number and 5calls will ask you if they can connect you to Skype. Be very sure to state your full name and the zipcode of your US voting address. If there is no answer to your call, leave a voice message and be sure to state your full US voting address so your call can be tallied.

  5. ➡️To send an email: Most Senators and Representatives have contact forms on their websites which you can use to send your opinion. Alternatively, you can visit democracy.io, enter your US voting address, choose which of your Representatives you want to write to, or write to all 3 at once!

  6. Democracy.io will provide an email form for you to fill out. Use the suggested text offered by 5calls.org to craft your email. Be sure to put your name and full US voting address at the top of your email message. Your Representative needs this to determine if you live in his or her district. Complete the form and send.

😊Smile, take a breath and congratulate yourself. You’ve just joined the resistance!

And, if you find calling is your thing, check with your local/Greek phone provider to see if they offer a flat rate to frequently called ‘other countries’ such as the US. That way you can call regularly and help Democrats get heard!
