In Memoriam:
Second Year Anniversary of the Overthrow of Roe v. Wade
Many of us thought it could never happen – yet it did. On June 27, 2022 the newly empowered right wing of the U.S. Supreme Court threw away all pretense of precedent and overturned Roe v. Wade with its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, eliminating the federal right to abortion. The events Post-Roe — bounty hunters, IVF under attack, woman in septic shock from lack of healthcare – were unthinkable at the time, yet have all come to pass.
This month's (unedited) banner was first posted in June 2022 a few weeks prior to the Dobbs ruling. It is a powerful reminder of everything we can and will lose if Donald Trump is elected. The November 5 election will have ramifications that none of us can currently imagine. Each of us needs to act like everything is on the line — because it is.

Open Caucus Positions
The pandemic shutdown brought about an end to many of DA Austria’s vibrant caucus and social groups. Let us know if you’d be interested to help revive one. These groups can both tie into the global caucuses or work independently to organize and advocate locally. To find out more contact [email protected].

Inside Democrats Abroad Global:
EMEA Regional and Global Conventions
Like other state parties, Democrats Abroad holds a convention to elect delegates to send to the Democratic National Convention to nominate the Democratic presidential candidate. DA actually holds four conventions – one global and one in each DA region (Asia Pacific, Americas, and Europe-Middle East-Africa). At the conventions, all elected DA positions opt-in to serve as electors and elect delegates, committee members, and members of the Democratic National Committee.
As the regional chair of EMEA, I chaired our convention on Sunday, May 26, 2024. This year 167 leaders opted-in to the EMEA convention and 119 attended. A total of eight elections took place for the following positions: one EMEA Regional DNC Member (2024–2028 term), six At-Large Delegates to represent DA at the National Convention in Chicago this August, and two DA Platform Committee Members (term until June 2024).
DA Austria has two former country committee chairs – Katie Solon and myself – in the 23 member delegation. We’re looking forward to representing Democrats Abroad in Chicago and hope you’ll tell your friends and family to look out for us on the convention floor!
DA is pleased to announce our Delegation to the 2024 DNC Convention as well as our 2024–2028 DNC team.

Take Action!
In Your Neighborhood – Voter Registration Tables
Summer is on its way and election season is heating up. Look for DA’s volunteers at a voter registration table at a market or street corner in your neighborhood. It’s more important than ever to make sure EVERY eligible voter in Austria requests and returns their ballot this year.
According to the Federal Voter Assistance Program, Austria has 12,730 eligible voters but in 2022 only 7.41% of them returned their ballot! That means we all know someone who did not vote in the last cycle. This November, important races are happening up and down the ballot which will control seats of power from your local school board to the White House. We must do better.
Stop by and say hello if you see us and be sure to tell your friends, family, and colleagues to come and request their ballot — it’s required each and every year.

Review:
Vienna Pride Parade, June 8
DA Austria brought its spirit to the Vienna Rainbow Parade this year with a watch party along the parade route. DA members set up a hub across from the Burggarten, proudly displaying our large Democrats Abroad pride banner. The parade was electric, as all of Vienna came together to celebrate and show support. People snapped up our DA US pride flags, made by our members, and our "Make America Gay Again!" poster drew much attention from the crowd. To top it off, we assisted several American parade-goers with voter registration, ensuring their voices will be heard in November. It was a day full of pride and unity!
