DAGR: So Far, So Good!

So Far, So Good: 1st semester report

By Alkman Granitsas & Karen Lee

It’s been a busy six months for Democrats, both here and in the U.S. Since the second coming of President Donald Trump, the world has been turned upside down. But we’ve been doing our best to resist and prepare for the future.

Since the current Executive Committee (ExCom) was elected in late January, we – along with the gracious support of our members – have been staying engaged. That means drawing together our tight-knit DAGR community, reaching out to new members, and raising our voice against the policies of the Trump Administration.

Here are a few highlights of the last six months:

  • Number of website articles published to the DAGR website : 18
  • Protest actions over Trump Administration policies : 6 + 2
  • Happy Hours staged in Athens, Thessaloniki or At Large in the past six months : 12
  • Total number of Thessaloniki & At Large Member coffee hours : 6
  • Newsletters sent out by email in last six months : 6
  • Membership surveys conducted : 1
  • New members chat groups launched : 1
  • Total number of DAGR Weekly Reader posts : 24
  • Number of DAGR Executive Committee meetings held : 6
  • Number of DAGR Communications Committee meetings held : 22
  • Number of events to commemorate International Women’s Day : 2
  • Press releases issued : 4
  • Opinion pieces published : 1
  • Media interviews given : 6
  • Videos produced : 3
  • Participation in academic and volunteer association events : 5
  • Online Kafeneion events : 1

And it’s been paying off. Membership, social media followers, and event attendance have all increased over the past six months.

Apart from that, we’ve also been working on things to help make DAGR work better like upgrading our banking relationship, raising funds, renewing our lease, reviewing our By Laws, experimenting with new logos and, of course, hosting a 4th of July gathering. Last, but not least, we continue to collaborate with our fellows in Democrats Abroad, attending the global annual general meeting and monthly regional meetings, taking part in committees and collaborating with neighboring countries.

The midterm elections are now just over 450 days away and they may be the most consequential midterm elections in U.S. history. So, we are getting ready. Starting this fall, we will be rolling out successive campaigns to help Americans in Greece register to vote.

The next 18 months will be busy. We need you, our members, to stay engaged. We need your help. America needs your help.
