Trump's 2025 Tax Law: What Expats Need to Know
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” made major changes to the American tax code. Key provisions for US expats include a boost to the SALT deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000. The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion also remains intact, with a previously scheduled inflation adjustment from $126,500 to $130,000. On the downside, a new 1% federal remittance tax will now apply to outbound money transfers from the US starting in 2026. New requirements for the Child Tax Credit could also impact some expats.
