Registering Students in Thessaloniki

"Study Abroad' programs draw US young people abroad for a semester or two, often overlapping election dates at home. DA makes an effort to inform them of their UOCAVA rights and to encourage them to vote.

A few members from the Democrats Abroad Thessaloniki Chapter were proud to participate in a nonpartisan voter registration drive at the Anatolia University campus on October 1st. The event aimed to guide U.S. citizens living abroad through the process of registering and requesting their ballots. We successfully helped 15 students and professors in registering to vote or requesting their ballots, ensuring their voices could be heard from overseas.

The day was filled with meaningful interactions that underscored the importance of our civic duty. Among those we helped was a teacher from Pinewood, a nearby American elementary school, who stopped by to register. We also had the chance to speak with others, and it was encouraging to see that, while living abroad, even temporarily, people are remembering to vote. One particularly inspiring moment came when a student shared how his high school history teacher left a lasting impression on him. Now participating in his second election, he was excited to cast his ballot and make his voice count.

The event left us inspired. Not just by the 15 ballots requested, but by the genuine engagement behind them. Several visitors said they would spread the word, and nothing works as well as word of mouth. For Democrats Abroad Thessaloniki, it was a reminder of why this work matters, and we’re ready to keep building on the momentum.

If you’re reading this, and still haven’t registered - time is running out fast. Most states close their registration on October 5th. Votefromabroad.org has all the information you need, and a dedicated team of volunteers globally running a help desk to answer questions 24/7.
