I almost forgot what it was like

To have a different point of view

Another opinion

Even a critical criticism

But still love your country

 

I almost forgot all of

Those young gifted and Black

Artist, Athletes

Mixed congenially together

White, Brown, Asian

Making it young

Gifted and track!

 

Who knew

That the 2024 France Olympics

That so proudly had our country

On golden display

5 young girls not only sporting

The red white and blue

But the differing hue

Of skin tones and different cultures

Eyes blazing the same

To win for the USA

 

Who could have ever imagined

That the heads of state

Grown men

Would try to discredit

Their own gold medalist

With vitriolic, hate,

And misygonist jealousy

 

I almost forgot

The vibrant chanting and cheering

Of an international audition

Wishing their best for Biles

Who with her team brought it home

For the USA

 

It is hard to remember

Our country

Even with its dark and dirty past

Stood the chance of making

A deep human revolution

That could make the world

A better place

I will strive for

A future

Where America

Can become

What she always thought she was

A land of the free
