Americans around the world call for an End to Fossil Fuel Subsidies
Representatives of the global arm of the U.S. Democratic Party, Democrats Abroad, have met in a special meeting to call for action against fossil fuels.
Elected leadership from country committees from six continents merged their concerns into a group of resolutions that will be part of their platform for the 2024 Presidential election.
The resolutions were authored by Sam Goodman and Dana Freling, Chair of the Democrats Abroad Environment & Climate Crisis Council and said,” We are delighted that their two resolutions passed with unanimous consent at the hearing of November 12th. The first resolution calls for a ban on future fossil fuel extraction permits on all public lands and waters and the second calls for a halt to all fossil fuel subsidies. Both resolutions tackle fossil fuels and are essential for solving our climate crisis.”
Ms. Freling will represent Democrats Abroad at this month’s COP28 in Dubai where they will be advocating for a stronger stand on reducing the use of these heavily polluting energy sources.END
