Thank you for your selfless courage in this historic decision. Once again you have put the Nation's welfare before personal ambition. How often you have shown this to us all. You have acted like a true Patriot.

How fitting in this Olympian year, you have passed the torch to someone more vigorous and younger than yourself so that the flame of Freedom, Liberty, and Decency might reach our Capitol ahead of the dark forces of hatred and corruption, lighting the way ahead to America's bright future.
