Congressional District 1Peter Barca
Candidate WebsiteCovering Southeastern Wisconsin, including Kenosha County, Racine County, and most of Walworth County, as well as portions of Rock County and Milwaukee County |
Born and raised in Kenosha County, Barca has dedicated his life to serving Southeast Wisconsin and standing up for middle class families. Barca served in the Wisconsin Assembly representing the Kenosha and Racine area, including seven years as the Assembly Minority Leader. Barca spearheaded legislation to build a world class workforce by investing in technical and training programs and fighting for equal pay protections. His platform issues include expanding the middle class, improving healthcare access, enhancing quality of life for seniors and safeguarding the environment for future generations - all positions deemed “too extreme for southeastern Wisconsin” by the opposing party. More on the Campaign Website. WisDems believe Wisconsin 1 (Paul Ryan’s old district) is flippable in 2024. The incumbent Republican (Bryan Steil) voted three times against reducing the cost of insulin. He is anti-abortion and in favor of the XL Pipeline. |
Congressional District 2Mark Pocan (i)
Candidate WebsiteCovering Southern Wisconsin including Dane County, Iowa County, Lafayette County, Sauk County and Green County as well as portions of Richland County and Rock County |
Mark Pocan has a long record as a Progressive Leader both in the Wisconsin Assembly and Congress. The Second District is based in and around the state Capitol of Madison. Pocan is openly gay and married. His endorsements include Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club, UAW, and Naral Pro Choice. Pocan voted in favor of Ending Citizens United (a Supreme Court decision that has ushered in a massive increase in political spending from outside groups and dark money). See Pocan’s campaign website HERE. |

Cooke has earned the endorsements of unions, local leaders, farmers, small business owners, and national organizations including Defend the Vote, Tomorrow’s Jobs PAC, Blue Dog PAC, New Democratic Coalition Action Fund, and WelcomePAC. Rebecca pledges to take action to get results to reduce healthcare costs and improve access to care. She will stand up for reproductive freedom and protect democracy. She will fight to improve water quality, invest in clean energy, mass transit and regulate corporate polluters. Website here. For more than two decades, the 3rd District was represented by Democrat Ron Kind, who–even as a majority of voters cast their ballots for former President Donald Trump–defeated Derrick Van Orden in 2020. But the district flipped to the right in 2022. This is considered a key seat to take control of the House. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report says the district currently leans Republican. In such an environment Cooke would seem to be a strong candidate to flip it back into the blue column. The Republican incumbent is a January 6th insurrectionist. Van Orden denies participating, but photos demonstrate otherwise. He was condemned by both McConnell and Schumer. Van Orden voted in favor of impeaching Joe Biden and against expelling George Santos. In 2022 he beat his opponent by 3.8% points. |
Congressional District 4Moore, Gwen (i)
Candidate WebsiteEncompassing part of Milwaukee County and most of the city of Milwaukee, as well as its working-class suburbs of Cudahy, St. Francis, South Milwaukee, and West Milwaukee. U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore is running for an 11th term in November and is a heavyweight in Wisconsin Democratic politics. She is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Gwen Moore is a strong advocate for measures that focus on improving the economic and employment conditions in low-income communities. Moore has fought to curb predatory lending in minority neighborhoods, led efforts to help small businesses grow and advance the creation of new jobs, pushed for affordable housing, and advocated for compliance with respect to the non-discriminatory hiring of minority-owned businesses for government contracts. She has been outspoken on behalf of low-wage workers and is a champion of women. |
Congressional District 5Ben Steinhoff
Candidate WebsiteCovering most of Milwaukee's northern and western suburbs. It presently covers all of Washington and Jefferson counties, most of Waukesha County, and portions of Dodge, Milwaukee and Walworth counties. It is the most Republican district in Wisconsin. |
Ben Steinhoff is running on a progressive platform of reproductive freedom, Medicare for all, legalization of marijuana, and increased funding for public education He is a first responder. “As a paramedic, I was privileged to take an oath to conserve life, alleviate suffering, and provide services with compassion and dignity - and I expect the same from our government.” WI5 is currently represented by Republican Scott Fitzgerald. He was one of two Wisconsin congressmen (the other being Tom Tiffany) who objected to certifying Joe Biden’s victory before his win was confirmed in a meeting of Congress that was interrupted by the storming of the Capitol by a violent mob loyal to Trump. |
Congressional District 6John Zarbano |
Oshkosh resident and retired lawyer, John Zarbano is a moderate progressive running in a strongly Republican district. He looks up to Jamie Raskin as a model of good governance. His platform emphasizes women’s reproductive rights, support for immigration reform, strong labor unions, net zero carbon emissions by 2050, healthy soil, education funding as a national security issue, strengthening Medicare and Social Security. Obama won this district in 2008. District 6 is currently represented by Republican Glenn Grothman, who took office in January 2015 and ran unopposed in 2022. The Washington Post has described Grothman as "a shambling, strident conservative”. According to Axios in October 2020, Grothman had a "Trump Loyalty Index" – measuring both his congressional votes and public reaction to certain statements from the then-president – of 93, higher than any other member of Congress. |
Congressional District 7Kyle Kilbourn |
District 7 is the state’s largest congressional district and just one of two to have a Democratic primary contest this year. Winner of that contest is Kyle Kilbourn, who was born in North Dakota, went to college in Minnesota, and lived for a time in Denmark before moving to Wisconsin. In all those places, Kyle has been involved in community service, problem-solving and governing. His congressional campaign is built on the principles of accessible healthcare, environmental protection, and a fair, democratic future for all, grounded in genuine community leadership. Kyle is openly gay and married. Endorsements include the National Education Association, Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance and Freethought Equality PAC Kyle will be facing off in November against Tom Tiffany, an extremist Republican who objected to certifying Joe Biden’s victory in 2020. |
Congressional District 8Kristin Lyerly |
Dr. Kristin Lyerly is a practicing OB-GYN running to represent Wisconsin’s 8th district. After the fall of Roe v. Wade, she fought against Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion ban – and won. She is advocating access to quality affordable healthcare, strengthening the economy, protecting reproductive rights, and investing in rural communities. Dr. Lyerly has received major endorsements, from Senator Tammy Baldwin to 314 Action and Reproductive Freedom for All. Here is her compelling launch video (3 minutes). WI 8 is considered a flippable district. In Lyerly, the Dems have a candidate who is generating lots of enthusiastic support. This is Wisconsin’s only open seat, as Mike Gallagher (who denounced Trump) announced in February 2024 that he would not run for re-election. His announcement came amid his outspoken criticism of the House Republican majority's impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. He left Congress in April. His seat remains vacant as it was too late under Wisconsin law to hold a special election before the fall general election. Wisconsin is one of the most crucial swing states in the country and, with new state-level maps and unprecedented engagement, high turnout rates are expected. |
