Memorial Day 2024 - American Cemetery Luxembourg


It was an amazing day Memorial Day Celebration at the American Cemetery and Memorial in Hamm, Luxembourg. This took place Saturday, May 25, 2024. The weather was looking a bit gloomy on the drive to grounds, but sunny weather prevailed. The event started a posting of colors by both Luxembourg and American Military followed by a flyover (see link below). An invocation was given by Bishop Léon Wagener of Archdiocese of Luxembourg followed by remarks by US Ambassador Thomas M. Barrett followed the President of the Chamber of Deputies Claude Weiser. We also had the Minister of Defense, Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes. The final speaker was Lieutenant General John D. Lamontagne. This was followed by a wreath laying ceremony of the official parties. A special moment when Cherri McMillian, the daughter of one of the fallen soldiers buried at the cemetery, Eugene Wehmueller, presented a wreath. The event concluded by a three volley salute and taps with benediction given by the US Army Chaplin and the colors being retired.
