As we look ahead to 2026, our work begins now. Democrats Abroad’s core mission is Get Out the Vote (GOTV) — making sure every American overseas knows they can vote, how to vote, and receives the support they need to cast their ballot. With nearly 9 million Americans living abroad — many of whom don’t know their voting rights — our voices can determine elections up and down the ballot.
To meet this moment, we’re launching our volunteer drive for 2026, and we hope you’ll join us.
🌟 Why Your Participation Matters
Overseas votes can be decisive: about 1 in 25 Congressional races are decided by a margin comparable to the size of the overseas voting population in that district. But turnout among expats remains much lower than among domestic voters — meaning your efforts to reach and support fellow Americans can truly shape outcomes.
By volunteering with us, you’re helping ensure:
-
Americans abroad know they have the right to vote
-
They understand how to request and return a ballot
-
They receive support when the process feels confusing
-
More voices are heard in 2026
📘 Voter Assistance & Training
We encourage all volunteers—in any role—to complete our voter assistance training.
This training will help you feel confident answering questions anytime they arise: on the train, at the supermarket, at community events, or during voter outreach. Sometimes it’s as simple as handing someone a voting card; other times it’s sitting beside them while they complete their request form.
What you’ll learn:
-
Voting basics for overseas residents
-
How to help with voter registration & ballot requests
-
What to do if a ballot doesn’t arrive
-
How to guide voters using the Backup Ballot (FWAB)
-
How to respond on our 24/7 Voter Help Desk and Zoom Rooms
To volunteer, just email Emily at [email protected] and she’ll notify you when the next training session is scheduled.
🙌 Volunteer Opportunities
Choose a role—or several! Training and support will be provided for all positions.
🗳️ Tabling
Help us find Americans across Munich, Landshut, and surrounding towns who may need assistance completing their voting paperwork. Tabling is one of our most effective forms of outreach during election years.
Please contact Emily at [email protected] if you’d like to help!
📞 Phonebanking
Phonebanking is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reach overseas voters — and it’s much easier than most people think!
-
No personal phone required: All calls are made directly through the Democrats Abroad website.
-
A script is provided: You’ll have clear talking points and guidance for every call.
-
Flexible and beginner-friendly: You can make calls from home, at your own pace, and training is available.
-
Targeted outreach: Some campaigns focus on specific states, so your local accent may even be a bonus!
We’ve had a warm, enthusiastic team of phonebankers in past cycles, and we’d love to rebuild that energy with your help!
Reach out to Emily at [email protected] if you’d like to join this team; she’ll let you know as soon as training is available.
✉️ Postcarding
Remember how exciting real mail felt when you first moved abroad? Our postcarding volunteers recreate that warmth with handwritten, personal messages encouraging fellow Americans to vote.
-
Start with a pack of 10, or
-
Request a larger batch if you’re one of our “super postcarders”
To get a batch, contact Emily at [email protected].
✊ Protest Planning
Many of our members have expressed strong interest in having more protests and public actions — and we’d love to make that happen. The key ingredient we’re missing is help with planning and coordination.
We aim to align our protests with major events and mobilizations happening in the United States. These actions are often announced on short notice, which means we need a team of volunteers ready to help organize quickly. Extra hands make it possible to move fast when the moment calls for it.
By joining this committee, you’ll help with:
-
Coordinating logistics
-
Recruiting and preparing speakers
-
Planning the structure and flow of events
-
Ensuring we can act swiftly when U.S.-based protests are announced
-
Providing coverage when others are out of town or unavailable
If you’ve ever wanted to help turn collective momentum into visible action, this is your group — and we’d love to have you. Please contact Emily at [email protected] if you’d like to join our list of available volunteers.
💬 Together, We Make the Difference
Every conversation, every call, every postcard, and every event helps empower voters and amplifies our collective voice. With your help, we can build a strong foundation for victory in 2026 and ensure overseas voters are informed, supported, and heard.
We can’t wait to work with you.
Warm regards,
