Newsletter September 2021

After a much deserved summer vacation, our chapter is getting back into the swing of things! This month is full of events, including our in-person monthly meeting THIS SATURDAY! We hope to see you there!

Monthly Meeting + Labor Day Picnic

When: Saturday, September 4th at 1pm

Where: Schlosspark, MS

RSVP: Website l Facebook

Description: Join us for our first in-person meeting of 2021! We will gather to celebrate Labor Day and discuss the most pressing issues facing Democrats at the moment. We will be grilling, so we ask everyone attending to bring something to grill, drinks, and a side to share with others. The 3G rules apply!

*If you RSVP over the website, please note that the time zone is incorrect (my bad!). We are meeting at 1pm our time, not EST.

Better Together Get out the Vote Event

Democrats Abroad Germany will also be hosting a country-wide outreach event on September 4th- Better Together- to reach Americans living in Germany. In Münster, we will be hanging up flyers throughout the city in an effort to reach new people. If you are interested in participating, please contact me and I will get you materials to hang up!

Quarterly Book Club

When: Thursday, September 9th at 7pm

Where: TBD

RSVP: Website

Book/Description: With residential schools suddenly making their way into mainstream media, we would like to dedicate this quarter’s book club to a book on the topic. We will be reading The Education of Augie Merasty: A Residential School Memoir. This short but hopefully insightful read will give us the change to learn more about this topic and allow us to springboard into a discussion on the US’ history with Native Americans and how this relates to the present. The 3G rules apply!

Phonebanking Callathon

When: September 11th (all day)

RSVP: Website (details to follow)

Description: Join us for the September 11th callathon to reach Democrats Abroad members like you to update contact information and encourage them to vote! Whether you make five calls or 50, you will be making a huge contribution. To sweeten the deal, whoever makes the most phone calls within our chapter will have a donation made in their name to participate in the wine tasting event being held this month (details below) + one bottle of wine.

DA State Outreach Meeting

When: September 12th, 3:00-4:30pm

Where: Zoom

RSVP: Website

Description: Democrats Abroad has spearheaded a campaign to allow people like us who live abroad to engage in politics on a state level. There are currently a limited number of groups, however more are being started regularly (and perhaps you could be the one to start a group for your state!). Join the meeting to learn more about how you can get involved.

CLIMATE CAUCUS CULTURE CLUB: "KISS THE GROUND" & REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

When: September 12th, 2:00-4:00pm

Where: Zoom

RSVP: Website

Description: As the first installment of a new series called the Climate Caucus Culture Club, the DA Germany Climate Caucus will host a panel discussion of the soil & regenerative agriculture documentary "Kiss the Ground". The film inspires a feeling of hope as it explains "how the food you eat can reverse climate change, heal your body and ultimately save the world." Our panel will consist of two experts from within our Democrats Abroad community, Bill Bien of DA Netherlands and Thomas Avery Garran of DA China, as well as John D. Liu, a film-maker and ecologist who is featured in "Kiss the Ground." The film can be viewed on Netflix or Vimeo.

OKTOBERFEST CELEBRATION: ONLINE WINE TASTING

When: September 25th, 7:00-9:00pm
