The Hamburg and Northern Germany chapter of Democrats Abroad joined 2,700 attendees at the vibrant Lübeck Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebration on Saturday, August 17. Members from Lübeck, alongside enthusiastic volunteers from Hamburg, Bremen, and Würzburg, staffed a lively DemsAbroad booth at the street festival and proudly marched in the demonstration. Embracing this year’s theme of “Show your colors,” the booth stood out amidst a sea of rainbows with a distinctive red, white, and blue American flair.

Throughout the festival, DemsAbroad members engaged with a record number of American citizens — 12 in total. Some were living abroad, others were pursuing educational or internship opportunities, but all left empowered with the knowledge of how to make their voices heard this November, regardless of their location.

The booth featured popular "Heads on sticks" photo opportunities, including Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the Democratic candidates for President and Vice President. A US-themed selfie booth provided visitors with a unique memento of the day. Many attendees also snapped photos with the eye-catching "Kamala the Riveter" and "Trump in Drag" posters.

To further highlight their cause, several members participated in a demonstration march through Lübeck’s historic old town. Rallying behind a cheerful “Happy Pride” banner, members also displayed creative homemade signs with slogans like, “Being gay is like glitter, it never goes away!”

CSD Lübeck marks the chapter’s second Pride event this month, following their participation in CSD Hamburg from August 2-4. Members will be out in force again on August 24, marching in the CSD Bremen parade.

As we approach another crucial election, let's remind all Americans to vote. Encourage those living abroad to visit VoteFromAbroad.org for a quick and easy voting process. Whether you're staffing a GOTV booth, marching for equality, or simply striking up a conversation with a fellow American, remember that we have the power to ensure a strong democracy in our home country for the next 4 years. Let’s make our voices heard!
