What to Do Wednesday
Your Weekly Guide to Staying Politically Active—From Abroad
Wednesday 15 April 2026
If we pay, we must have a say. Take action today.
Today is Tax Day in the United States.
No matter where we live, many of us still file. Many of us still pay. We contribute to a system that makes decisions on our behalf.
But taxation without representation is not just a phrase from history. It is a warning.
If we are expected to fund our government, then we must insist on our voice in it and we must use that voice at the ballot box in numbers we have never reached before.
And right now, that voice matters more than ever.
Around the world, we are seeing what happens when people show up. In Hungary, voter participation recently reached an extraordinary 77 percent. That level of engagement sends a clear message: when people vote in large numbers, they shape the future of their country.
The lesson is simple: participation is power and high turnout wins decisive victories.
This November, we must do the same. From abroad, we have the chance to deliver a clear, undeniable mandate but only if we all show up, request our ballots, and vote. Our votes have real power when we cast them.
Take Action Now
#1 Request Your Ballot Today
Do not wait. As overseas voters, we must take the extra step early.
Request your ballot now at VoteFromAbroad.org.
#2 Call Your Members of Congress
Tell them clearly that you are not OK with how your tax dollars are being used.
As Americans abroad, we still contribute financially. We have every right to demand accountability.
Call your Representative and Senators and say:
- You expect responsible, rational leadership
- You oppose reckless use of taxpayer funds
- You are paying attention and you vote
Find your elected officials: You can find the contact information for your Senators here: U.S. Senate You can find the contact information for your Representatives here: Find Your Representative | house.gov
#3 Reach One More Voter
Talk to a friend, neighbor, or colleague. Ask if they have requested their ballot. Offer to help.
One conversation can lead to one more vote. And those votes add up to the kind of overwhelming turnout that changes outcomes.
Why This Matters
We are living through a moment where critical decisions are being made about how public money is spent and what direction the country will take.
If we are funding it, we must shape it.
Silence is not neutral. Participation is power. Staying on the sidelines is a choice and it is one we cannot afford to make this year.
The example from Hungary shows what is possible when citizens engage at scale. Seventy-seven percent turnout does not happen by accident. It happens when people understand that their future depends on showing up and they act like it.
So must we.
Positive Momentum
Across the United States and around the world, civic engagement is rising. More voters are recognizing their influence. More communities are organizing. More voices are being heard.
We are part of that momentum and we can push it further by making sure every eligible voter we know is registered, has requested their ballot, and is ready to vote.
From Italy, our voices carry further than we think. Together, we can help deliver a turnout as unprecedented and decisive as 77 percent.
