What to Do Wednesday
Your Weekly Guide to Staying Politically Active—From Abroad
Wednesday 22 April 2026
The Senate is within reach. It will come down to turnout, including ours.
For much of this election cycle, taking back the Senate felt out of reach.
That is no longer true.
New analysis shows something remarkable. A Democratic Senate is now a real possibility. Polling shows Democrats tied or ahead in four Republican-held seats, the exact number needed to win control.
Those states are Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, and Alaska.
Even more striking, two of these states were won by Donald Trump by double digits just two years ago.
This shift is being driven by several clear factors:
- A declining approval rating for Donald Trump
- Strong Democratic candidates competing everywhere
- A national political environment moving in our direction
For the first time in this cycle, the path is visible.
Why This Matters
We have been here before.
In January 2021, two Senate runoff elections in Georgia decided control of the United States Senate. Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock won both races by narrow margins, giving Democrats control of the Senate.
Those victories were not inevitable. They were the result of turnout.
And here is the part that matters most for us:
Overseas votes were part of that margin of victory.
Democrats Abroad has documented that approximately 20,000 votes from Americans living abroad in Georgia exceeded the final margin in key races, helping force the runoff and ultimately contributing to the outcome that secured Senate control.
We did not just participate.
We made the difference.
The Moment We’re In
Today, we are in a strikingly similar moment.
- The Senate is competitive
- Multiple Republican-held seats are within reach
- The outcome will again come down to turnout
Hope is rising.
But hope is not the outcome.
Turnout is the outcome.
Take Action Now
1. Request Your Overseas Ballot
Right now, only about 13% of Democrats Abroad Italy members have requested their ballots.
That number must change.
Do not assume you will get to it later. Do not wait.

We have done it before.
In Georgia, in 2021, our votes helped secure the Senate.
Now we must do it again.
