Your Weekly Guide to Staying Politically Active—From Abroad

Wednesday, 17 December, 2025

Hello friends,

This week, we are guided by the voice of our Youth Caucus Chair, Isabella. Her words remind us why civic engagement, especially in moments of grief and urgency, matters so deeply.

Hi everyone.

I’m Isabella, the Youth Caucus Chair. I’m 19 which makes me the same age as the survivors and victims of the Sandy-Hook shooting in 2012. December 14 marks the twelve year anniversary of the immense tragedy and it distresses me deeply to wake up to news of another shooting, in another school. As a university student also going through final exam season it was heart wrenching to read about. Thoughts and prayers aren’t going to cut it anymore. I am tired of these headlines and tired of seeing people so scared. We need policy change now more than ever. We needed it after Sandy-Hook and we need it now after Brown. Contact your representatives and express the distress that this news brings you. We cannot let this be the norm anymore.

We need:

    • A ban on automatic weapons
    • Red Flag laws
    • Universal background checks
    • Mandatory licenses

Let us take Australia as an example, not for the tragic event that happened at Bondi Beach but for the attention and action that the Prime Minister is already taking to make the country safer. We must call for immediate action to make our country safer.

Isabella

Isabella’s words are clear, direct, and impossible to ignore. Gun violence is not inevitable. It is the result of policy choices, and policy can be changed.

What You Can Do This Week

Contact your representatives now. Tell them that school shootings, mass violence, and fear cannot be accepted as normal. Share how this ongoing cycle of tragedy affects you, your family, and your community, even from abroad.

Ask them to support:

  • A ban on automatic weapons
  • Strong Red Flag laws
  • Universal background checks
  • Mandatory licensing

Your voice matters. When we speak together, across borders and generations, we make it harder to look away and harder to do nothing.
