Defend the Constitution and demand transparency!
TAKE ACTION NOW
Call your Members of Congress today. Ask them to defend Congress’s constitutional authority over war powers and demand transparency about recent military actions.
You can find the contact information for your Senators here: U.S. Senate You can find the contact information for your Representatives here: Find Your Representative | house.gov
When a staff member answers, you can simply say:
“Hello, my name is [Name]. I am U.S. citizen living in Italy and a constituent my voting address and zip code are [XXX}. I am calling to ask the Senator or Representative to defend Congress’s constitutional authority over war powers and demand transparency about recent military actions ordered by the President. Thank you.”
If you cannot call during U.S. office hours leave a voice mail message. Congressional offices track every call they receive.
You can also send an email message using these ready made email templates - write to your Representative and write to your Senators
WHY THIS MATTERS
Recent reporting and public statements indicate that President Donald Trump ordered U.S. military action without congressional authorization. The U.S. Constitution gives Congress the authority to declare war, a safeguard designed to prevent unilateral military action by a president.
When that balance of power is ignored, it raises serious concerns about constitutional oversight and democratic accountability.
Members of Congress must hear directly from Americans everywhere, including those of us living abroad.
POSITIVE MOMENTUM
There is also encouraging news from the United States.
Democrats are kicking off 2026 with clear signs of enthusiasm and momentum, from statehouses to high‑turnout primaries. In deep‑red Arkansas, Democrat Alex Holladay just flipped Arkansas House District 70 in a special election, winning a Republican‑held state legislative seat and giving the party a rare but powerful pickup in a heavily GOP chamber.
Across the map, Democrats have been consistently over‑performing their 2024 baseline in special elections by double‑digit margins on average, echoing the pattern we saw before the 2018 “blue wave.” And just this week, Democratic turnout in the Texas primaries hit record levels, with more voters casting ballots in the Democratic primary than the Republican one—a striking sign of energy heading into November.
For Democrats Abroad Italy, these results are a reminder that every ballot from overseas can help turn strong performances into decisive victories in 2026 Democrats Abroad continues working to ensure that every U.S. citizen living overseas can register, request their ballot, and vote.
Have you requested your ballot yet? Now more than ever, we need to make sure that every U.S. citizen in Italy has requested their 2026 overseas ballot—do it today, then help three friends do the same. Click below to go to Vote from Abroad, get help or let us know you’ve requested your ballot.
